Great
Yarmouth Racecourse provides a unique opportunity for a fun day out
at our attractive seaside race track to enjoy the spectacle, thrill
and supercharged atmosphere of exciting horseracing.

Racing
has been held at Great Yarmouth since the early 1700's and is part
of the town's tradition.
The first racecourse was built in 1810 on the Denes to enable officers
from the Yarmouth barracks to race their horses and in 1819 a monument
was erected commemorating Nelson's victory at the battle of Waterloo
in the middle of the race course.
The current race track was created in 1921 and with only a small break
during World War II has continued to attract runners from the major
training centre at Newmarket and other trainers nationwide. Due to
the tremendous support from the top trainers the racing quality is
above average and top jockeys regularly attend.
The racecourse was acquired by The Northern Racing Group and a tremendous
amount of money has been invested in developing the facilities including
the construction of the new Lord Nelson Grandstand which was officially
opened on 14th May 2004.
A quality Children's Play Area and Family Café, improved Owners
& Trainers facility and

development
of the Stables are also part of the continuing multi million pound
project.
The quality of racing has been enhanced by the increase in the number
of Grade 1 Listed Races and feature races on each meeting during the
3 day Eastern Festival which is held in September each year. All of
the race meetings which are held during School Holidays & Half
Terms benefit from a variety of live children's entertainment including
Punch & Judy, Children's Magic Show. The themed Family Fun Days
are also enhanced by Mascot Races, Kid's Fun Races, Children's Rides
and Competitions.
